The WIL Australia national board, the WIL Australia Awards working party, and the Professional Learning Committee select the annual award finalists. The finalists are announced at the award ceremony at the WIL Australia annual conference. The current Award categories are as follows:
- Local Hero Award - An SME partner organisation whose engagement is above and beyond expectations for the size of the organisation
- Collaboration Award - A partner organisation who makes a sustained significant multi-year contribution
- Innovation and Excellence Award - An institution or individual who demonstrates quality and innovative WIL practices across disciplines, models and methods
- People's Choice Award (Case Study) - Awarded to WIL practitioners who develop a short video (3-4 minutes long) that shares a quality and/or innovative practice
- Honorary Life Membership Award - Recognises significant service and contribution to Work Integrated Learning (WIL) in Australia and/or internationally in areas of practice, pedagogy or research
